[ it would be funny if he got portaled away but no. he's under the water, and he feels dahut pull the line. there's no response right away but he does eventually give a quick and short tug back. but he doesn't resurface right away. ]
[Oh okay WELL THAT'S GOOD. He is alive and still there and in control enough, presumably, to let Dahut know that.
He will wait... a bit longer and then give the rope another little tug as he math lady memes about an average healthy human's lung capacity when not strengthened by Reliver technology or weakened by curses.]
[ he is probably a little past what is average for a healthy human, but he's also not coming back up to the surface yet. well. that's probably not good.
[He really almost tried to pull Yosuke back from the void before his healing could be completed because he got so concerned about the longass time it took him to respond... THE ONLY REASON HE DIDN'T is because he literally just helped embalm Yosuke's NPC corpse back to life so he's like "well clearly normal ass laws of logic and physics do not apply here, including to life and death(???)".
He's absolutely engaging the mechanic to reel Yosuke back up fastly as soon as he feels the tug back though. YOSUKE!!!!!!! He will be reeled up like a lil fish, the harness putting most pressure on his back as Dahut had explained. There is also a surprising amount of force in this little motor so maybe he will go nyooming right out...]
[ well he still has a cut on his hand so even then. but regardless!! the mechanism is triggered and the harness tightens, the pulley kicking in as it reels him straight out of the river.
i rolled an 8, so once again the shit luck stat kicks in and he lands right on his face, ass up and harness heavy. ]
Ow... [ but at least the wounds look closed and his ankle's a normal size. yay! ]
[NOT HIS PAW. ALSO STOP HAVING SHIT LUCK. Dahut immediately scurries over to him, looking him over quickly to make sure he isn't in any life-threatening danger SEEMINGLY before dropping to his side to help pancake him over.]
Are you okay?! You were down there for a really long time...! Oh, but you really do look better now...
[ he is flipped like pancake... though he does roll himself over with dahut's assistance, flopping on his back and staring up at the sky for a moment. there's a tentative roll of his ankle first, and then his fingers running along his side. ]
Looks like that did it. [ other than the way he hisses briefly as the cut on his palm drags over his pant leg. ] For the most part.
Dude it's fine, if this is the only thing left I'll take it. [ for a few reasons, but he won't tell dahut that. he holds out his paw for examination though, cut still on his hand but not really bleeding.
there's also a bit of quite like he's trying to assess how he feels. ]
How long was that? Nothing else hurts, no. [ ... though he does feel a little strange, even if he can't put his finger on it yet. ]
[Grabbing his hand to inspect it with like 50% care of a friend and 50% scientific curiosity...]
It was too long! Definitely pushing the limits of what a human could handle! If you breathed in water for a certain amount of time, it would be easy enough to resuscitate you with just a few broken bones, so I decided that was an okay risk, but I was really starting to get worried...
[A RIVER THAT KEEPS YOU IN ITS DEPTHS AND MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER BY BEING THERE WHILE REARRANGING YOU INTO WELLNESS SOUNDS NOT GREAT. Especially to a science-brained guy. This is the thread where he gets his great idea to start putting together pieces of an EEG machine.]
You're sure you're not a river-y Yosuke-like doppelganger?
[ help me, thank you dahut. use your brain for something good my guy, yosuke is clearly not thinking too deeply about that even while he flexes and curls his hand.
there's also a wry smile. ]
No, my doppelganger's much more of an asshole. I think. [ this is not even a joke dahut will understand because yosuke hasn't told him much about home or his shadow or anything, but it's FINE. if only because the words are out of his mouth, and something seems to slot into his brain in a way that makes him frown suddenly. hm. hold on... ]
[HIS BRAIN IS DOING ITS BEST. This is also so funny hello. HE'S ALSO FROWNING AT THE SUDDEN FROWNING he can't even focus on the joke-that-might-not-be-a-joke-because-everyone-has-weird-lives in this economy.]
What is it? Did something change?
[STILL HOLDING HIS PAW. He will give it back once he knows Yosuke won't turn into seafoam suddenly.]
I... [ something feels wrong, and it's only because he's usually in-tune with himself these days that he even notices. he's not sure how to explain this. ] ... no, it's nothing. The river did what it needed to do.
Do you know how concerning it is to hear someone say "the river did what it needed to do" when they were seemingly magnetically drawn to the river in the first place and stayed in there for a spookily long time and then popped back out all healed up?
[It sounds like you're going to join a river cult, sir.]
[ read that as patting his head and giving it back and was so confused. but that's fair, he will take his hand back. ]
Then that's a good thing. We don't have to worry about that part failing or anything, which is nice if this really is our only means to heal right now.
It's better than nothing, at least! [THAT IS certainly true...] But will you let me know if anything changes? Either physically or mentally, though I guess the latter might be a little harder to pick up on if you're the one living through the changes.
[MAYBE... PERHAPS... Let the scientist know that the magic river took your brain pal...]
Um! It would depend on what changed, really, but documenting it thoroughly would be the first step. Investigations, if possible! Examinations! Anything that could help tie what's happening to the river. Figuring out how it works isn't as high priority as some other things, but it couldn't hurt to try.

It didn't feel like I did that either. I think... I lost track down there? But it felt better being there, like things were being readjusted.
